6,000: The Number Behind Anthropic's New Business Agent Strategy
Anthropic targets professionals and small businesses with a specialized AI tool that connects to thousands of services while avoiding personal errands.

Anthropic has officially entered the crowded market of artificial intelligence assistants with the launch of Claude Duet, a new application designed to compete with established players like Meta Muse and OpenAI Dots. Rather than aiming to be a general purpose companion for everyday life, the company has positioned this new tool specifically for professionals and small business owners who need help automating complex workflows and managing daily operational tasks.
The technical foundation of the new agent relies on the Claude Opus 5.5 model, which powers its ability to interact with the digital ecosystem. A key metric in this strategy is the connectivity offered through the Claude Marketplace, where the agent can interface with over 6,000 different connectors and plug-ins. This extensive network allows the software to integrate with a wide range of professional tools, giving it the reach necessary to handle diverse business requirements without requiring users to manually switch between platforms.
The company has drawn a clear line between this new offering and the personal agents that dominate the consumer space. Anthropic notes that Duet is not intended to book flight tickets or handle simple errands, and it does not display its browser activity in real time to the user. Instead, the focus is on proactive business intelligence. The agent builds daily briefings, creates data dashboards, and suggests strategic actions based on the information it processes. It operates through its own virtual machine, allowing it to complete tasks in the background while the user continues with their other work.
Security and financial controls are central to the design of the new platform. Anthropic has introduced a specific classifier that scans every message to prevent sensitive data from leaking to external parties. By default, the agent is programmed to decline requests that ask for credit card numbers or government identification numbers. While the tool can execute online purchases through Stripe’s Link digital wallet or Shopify’s Shop Pay, it will not trade securities or move funds between different bank accounts without explicit permission. Sensitive steps, particularly those involving payments, always require direct user approval before proceeding.
This launch marks a broader shift in the industry as rivals move beyond simple chatbots toward agents that act on behalf of the user. Meta recently released a business specific version of its Muse assistant, and OpenAI’s Dots also leans heavily into professional integrations. Anthropic is joining this race by offering a tool that monitors ongoing tasks and delivers recommendations proactively, aiming to capture the attention of business users who need reliable automation.
Claude Duet is currently available in a research preview for Pro and Max customers. Users can access the service through the Claude.ai website or via dedicated applications for iOS and Android. To manage the initial rollout, the company is using a waitlist system, meaning interested parties must sign up to gain early access to the new capabilities.
